The Maligne Valley & Pleckaitis Canyon Icewalk is an adventure activity that will show you the most beautiful places in Jasper National Park. This tour takes you into the heart of the Maligne Valley, with stops at scenic viewpoints such as Medicine Lake. Your guide will talk about the ecology of forest fires and how the landscape recovers. The highlight is an ice walk through the hidden Pleckaitis Canyon, a pristine gorge with towering rock walls. Due to the July 2024 forest fires, Maligne Canyon will not be accessible in the winter of 2025, but this tour is the perfect alternative to that.
Maligne Canyon (*) is one of the most beautiful spots in Jasper National Park and with this excursion you will see for yourself why! In the summer months the water here plunges down richly, but in winter the falls are frozen stiff. With the Icewalk, you hike past these waterfalls, as well as to ice caves and unusual ice formations in the bottom of the canyon, the deepest in the National Park. The tour is led by an experienced guide and lasts 3 hours. You’ll walk mostly downhill with special boots with snow spikes so you can safely explore Maligne Canyon. You do need to provide your own appropriate clothing. Transfer to and from your accommodation in Jasper is included. The guide price for this tour is $69 / €45 for adults and $35 / €24 for children.

And no, you don’t have to be an experienced mountaineer to take this excursion, even if you’ve never climbed it before you can join in. Ice climbing is one of the coolest activities you can do during your Alberta ski vacation, and this way you get to places other park visitors can’t. With Rockaboo Mountain Adventures, you’ll travel to a frozen waterfall near Jasper and brave the ice with full climbing gear. It is also possible to book a private tour. Guide prices: $225 / €153 p.p. for the group tour and $600 / €408 p.p. for a private tour. Click here for more information.
