When you book a trip through Edmonton-Jasper that includes a shuttle service, it will be operated by SunDog Transportation and Tours. You’ll be taken from Edmonton to Jasper in a comfortable coach in around 4.5 hours. Check the current schedule on the SunDog Transportation and Tours website. Good to know: on board the shuttle bus, you’re allowed to bring one piece of checked luggage and one piece of hand luggage. Are you bringing your own skis or snowboard? Then you can take them on board free of charge as well. Make sure you arrive at the pick-up location at least 15 minutes in advance.
Another option is to travel by rental car. You can easily rent a car at Edmonton International Airport so you can drive from the airport straight to your final destination. Of course, you can also arrange this through one of the travel agencies affiliated with Edmonton-Jasper (some Edmonton-Jasper trips) include a rental car.
Canadian traffic rules are very similar to the traffic rules we are used to in the Netherlands. In Canada, people drive on the right side of the road (just like in the Netherlands, that is). Distances and speed limits are given in kilometers. On highways, the maximum speed is between 90 and 110 km/h, on two-lane roads the maximum speed is 80 to 100 km/h and within built-up areas you may drive a maximum of 30 to 50 km/h. Especially in places where you have to drive just a little slower, speed is often checked. The fines are high, so pay attention.
You are required to stop at a stop sign in Canada. Even if you can already see that no other traffic is coming, you are not allowed to continue without a complete stop. At equivalent intersections, stop at the stop line. The car that stops first is also the first to drive.
Keep in mind the long distances. Alberta is about 16 times the size of the Netherlands. Always make sure you bring enough fuel, water and food. In remote areas, gas stations are scarce.
